Sustainable Truck of the Year 2021

In mid-November, during the “digital” version of Ecomondo, a fair dedicated to the Green economy, the prizes for the Sustainable Truck of the Year 2021 were awarded. The fifth edition awarded prizes in the Tractor, Distribution and Van categories.

Tractor – IVECO S-Way Np 460

With the S-Way Np, Iveco sets new benchmarks, in terms of performance and efficiency, for alternative fuel long-distance vehicles. Having said that liquid methane reduces particulate by 99 percent, NOx by 60 percent and, with the use of biogas, 95 percent of CO2. Iveco S-Way is not only the only gas powered vehicle with a range of 1,600 kilometers but it also becomes the new reference in terms of consumption: 4.12 kilometers with a kilo of gas.

Together with the technical performance, obtained also thanks to a widely tested kinematics. Cursor 13 engine of 12.8 liters 460 hp, perfecltly dialogues with the Hi-Tronix automated 12-speed gearbox, and a completely new cab which Cx is improved of 12 per cent with clear benefits in consumption (up to 4 per cent).
Iveco S-Way Np also combines high quality standards together with a significant increase of comfort levels for the driver and safety for other road users.
With the new cab, has been created a wide environment (2,150 mm height and a tunnel reduced to just 95 mm), even less noisy inside and outside (complies with Piek standards).
The numerous driver assistance systems have been combined to connectivity services that make transport even more sustainable.

Distribution – RENAULT Trucks D Wide 320

A synthesis of Renault Trucks’ know-how and experience within the competitive and crowded medium-heavy segment, the D Wide makes of versatility the winning tool for sustainable distribution.
In its most powerful version, the 7,7-liter 6-cylinder together with the Optidrive transmission and the efficient Fuel Eco electronic management that includes also Optiroll, guarantees low consumption, therefore low pollution, and represents one of the best solution for both regional transport and the constant request to increase profitability.
With the most recent model update, Renault Trucks has then raised the bar even higher when it comes to ‘driver care’. All the traditional ergonomics and functionality, the latest version of the D Wide cab adds many ideas, such as the roof electric glass roof and the horizontal sliding passenger window, to make the driver’s job easier, reducing stress levels and increasing safety.

A decisive step forward has been taken to reduce the impact of such big vehicles . Thanks to cut of the side windows and the Vision door, visibility has increased, especially in the blind spots, while the complete standard equipment, to which is possible to ad almost infinite options, guarantees a full internal safety for the drivers and external for other vehicles.

Categoria VAN – FORD Transit mHev

Being the only hybrid van of its category on the market says a lot. With the Transit mHEV, Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle, Ford lights a spot on the last mile sustainability. The 2-liter Ecoblue (available in 170 and 130 hp) together with the kinetic recovery system that takes the energy from braking by stocking it into a 48 V battery , therefore with a greater capacity than the standard 12 V, to then reuse it to support start-up phases, acceleration, and for the electrical on board components. Transit mHEV reduces fuel consumption of 3% (average) with peaks up to 8% in the prevalent use in city driving, not least cutting CO2 emissions up to 10 percent.

Ford therefore shifts the classic ‘extra gear’ on the sustainability front with the hybrid version of a van that is already at the top in the classic version in terms of versatility of the models and variants available, comfort, safety and connectivity.
Finally, it should not be forgotten that with the most recent upgrade the Transit has significantly reduced its tare weight: 50 kilos for the front-wheel drive version, and 80 for those with rear-wheel drive.
